My Dear Brothers and Sisters of the Fifth Episcopal District:
I am sharing with you the information that was sent out by the Tenth Episcopal District regarding the ways in which we can assist the victims of Hurricane Harvey. Members of the Fifth District are encouraged to contribute through their Presiding Elders so that we may monitor contributions as we strive to reach our goal.
Thank you in advance for your kindness and generosity towards the victims of Hurricane Harvey.
God bless you.

TEXAS HURRICANE HARVEY RELIEF
Recovery takes time. You can help with a gift today that will help make tomorrow better.
We thank our families and friends for praying for Texas! The worse is not over. Unfortunately, it has only begun as tornadoes touch down and catastrophic rain keeps pounding our communities in southern Texas. This weather system is sitting right on top of Houston, Galveston, Victoria, and other cities in that area. Thousands have already been evacuated or rescued from their homes as flood waters and the storm surge threaten. Many people are stranded in their homes or apartments. The rain bands are now beginning to loop around hitting Austin and San Antonio. Tragically, the rain will continue for days.
Pray for Texas! One pastor and family was rescued from flood waters in Dickinson, and we just heard that residents in nearby areas were cautioned. Downtown Houston is reported to be under water, and at least one television station is evacuating its building.
We have many members in areas that are already flooded or are under flood warnings. Church services were cancelled Sunday but were conducted via conference call or on the Internet. At this moment members are holding on and all churches are accounted for! Praise God!
The recovery effort is going to be massive. It will be a long time before the rain stops and flood waters recede. Evacuees may be in temporary housing or shelters for weeks or months.
For all of our members, families and friends in the danger zone, stay safe. Pay attention to authorities and know when to evacuate. Keep important documents with you including insurance, prescriptions and banking information. Take your mobile phones, tablets or laptops, if you can, along with chargers. Be sure to let family members know where you are. Storm surges and catastrophic rains are nothing to play with. I urge you to keep yourselves and your families as safe as you can during this crisis.
When the rain stops and waters recede, Team Texas will go into action to assist and support local agencies in recovery efforts. We will make an assessment and let you know the extent of the damages and how you can help. We want to create a way to help, not get in the way of first responders. We also want to be effective and efficient in our response so as not to provide what is not needed.
Please do not empty your closets to help. Our goal is to raise the necessary funds to purchase gift cards so people can purchase what they need for their families. Distribution centers are already established in the Houston and Galveston areas.
In the wake of Hurricane Harvey, which brought with it damaging tornadoes, catastrophic rains and flooding in southern Texas, the 10th Episcopal District is organized to provide recovery assistance. We are soliciting funds to purchase gift cards. Storm victims can then purchase needed food, clothing, hygiene, clean up and repair materials, medicines, personal products, school uniforms and supplies.
Recovery takes time. You send a gift today that will help make a better tomorrow.
