New Rules for Submitting Applications for this Semester Only
- The deadline for all Fifth District Lay scholarships will be extended from May 15th to July 15th, 2020.
- Due to the affects of COVID-19 and its impacts to colleges/university restrictions, for this semester only, the Fifth District Lay Organization’s Scholarship Committee will eliminate areas requiring grade point evaluation. However, applicants are still required to submit proof of this semester’s enrollment and adhere to other scholarship qualifications, such as essay submission.
Due to COVID-19 restrictions, many colleges and universities are not providing Grade Point Averages (GPA’s) this semester. Instead, many are offering a choice – either to receive a universal pass or fail mark (similar to a hardship grade), or to receive a letter grade.
Mr. Simeon Rhoden, Fifth District Lay President, brought this up to the Executive Board and asked that the Fifth District Lay Organization’s Scholarship Committee take into consideration the impacts of COVID-19’s college/university restrictions, and for this semester/term only, eliminate the GPA evaluation and provide more consideration around the applicant’s essay submission and other qualifications. The health and safety of God’s people is important to the African Methodist Episcopal Church and the Fifth Episcopal District Lay Organization is taking action to assist applicants applying for scholarships.
